Ticket Purchase Terms

Version 2026-08-21 · The version you accepted at checkout is the one that governs your purchase

These terms apply every time you buy a ticket to an event through GrandRSVP. Read them before you pay: they say who you are actually contracting with, what happens to your money, and what you are owed if the event does not happen.

Nothing in these terms limits any right you have under the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008 (the CPA) or any other South African law. Where these terms and the CPA disagree, the CPA wins.

  1. Who you are contracting with

The event organiser named on the event page is the supplier of the event. They set the price, decide what the ticket admits you to, and are responsible for actually putting the event on.

GrandRSVP sells the ticket as the organiser's agent. We operate the ticket shop, issue your e-ticket, collect the money on the organiser's behalf and hold it for a period after the event. We are not the supplier of the event and we do not promise that the event will take place, be enjoyable, or be as the organiser described it.

The distinction matters for your rights. A complaint about the event itself lies against the organiser. A complaint about the ticketing — a failed payment, a duplicate charge, a ticket that never arrived — lies against us.

  2. Your order

A ticket is reserved for you for fifteen minutes while you pay. If payment is not confirmed within that window the reservation lapses and the ticket returns to sale.

Your contract with the organiser is formed when your payment is confirmed and we issue your e-ticket, not when you place the order.

Each ticket carries a unique QR code and a printed serial. Treat it like cash: anyone holding a copy can be admitted, and the first valid scan is the one that gets in. We are not obliged to replace a ticket you have shared or published.

  3. Price, fees and what you pay

The ticket price is set by the organiser. Our booking fee and service fee are shown as separate lines at checkout before you pay, so the total is never a surprise. Some organisers choose to absorb our fee, in which case no separate fee line appears.

All amounts are in South African Rand and include VAT where VAT applies. The organiser, not GrandRSVP, accounts for VAT on the ticket price.

  4. Cancelling your booking

Section 17 of the CPA gives you the right to cancel an advance booking for an event. You may cancel by written notice to us or to the organiser at any time before the event starts.

The organiser may retain a reasonable cancellation fee. Whether a fee is reasonable is judged on the factors in Regulation 5: the length of notice you gave, the reasonable prospect of reselling the ticket at the same price, the general practice in the events industry, and the nature of the event itself.

A cancellation fee will never be one hundred per cent of what you paid. A term that kept everything would deprive section 17 of any content.

No cancellation fee at all is charged where the cancellation follows the death or hospitalisation of the person the booking was made for. We will ask for reasonable proof and nothing more.

The cancellation fee that applies is disclosed on the event page and again at checkout before you pay. If none is disclosed, none may be charged.

  5. If the event is cancelled, postponed or materially changed

If the organiser cancels the event, cannot supply it, or supplies something materially different from what was advertised, section 47 of the CPA entitles you to a refund of everything you paid, together with interest at the prescribed rate from the date you paid until the date you are refunded, and the costs you incurred that were directly incidental to the organiser's breach.

Directly incidental costs are real out-of-pocket amounts caused by the cancellation — a non-refundable travel booking made for the event is the standard example. They are not disappointment, lost enjoyment, or consequential business losses.

Interest and incidental costs are recorded and paid as separate amounts from the ticket refund itself. They are never quietly folded into the ticket price.

If an event is postponed, your ticket stays valid for the new date. If the new date does not suit you, you may treat the postponement as a cancellation and claim under this clause instead.

  6. Over-selling

Section 47 also covers the case where an organiser accepts more bookings than there is capacity for. If you are turned away because the event was over-sold, you are owed the same remedy: a refund, prescribed interest, and directly incidental costs.

GrandRSVP claims inventory atomically at the moment of sale precisely so this cannot happen through our system. If it happens anyway, tell us and we will treat it as a section 47 claim without argument.

  7. How refunds are paid, and by whom

GrandRSVP holds ticket money for a period after the event before releasing it to the organiser. While we still hold the money we execute refunds directly — you do not have to chase the organiser, and you do not have to wait for them to pay us back.

Once the money has been disbursed to the organiser we no longer hold your money. Your claim for a refund then lies against the organiser as the supplier. We will give you the organiser's contact details, the full record of your order, and any assistance we reasonably can, but we cannot refund money we no longer have.

That is the honest reason the hold period exists, and the reason we require security from an organiser before releasing money early.

Refunds are paid to the method you paid with wherever the payment provider allows it. We aim to process an approved refund within five business days of approving it; how long it then takes to appear is your bank's business, not ours.

  8. Chargebacks

If you believe a charge is wrong, contact us first. Most disputes turn out to be a duplicate payment or an unrecognised statement descriptor and are resolved within a day.

You keep every right you have against your card issuer. If you do raise a chargeback we will provide the issuer with the order record, the e-ticket, and the scan log showing whether the ticket was used. A chargeback raised on a ticket that was scanned in at the door will be defended.

Where a chargeback succeeds after we have paid the organiser, we recover the amount from the organiser. That is a matter between us and them and does not affect you.

  9. Admission

Admission is controlled by the organiser and their door staff. They may refuse entry on reasonable grounds — age restrictions, intoxication, or conduct that endangers others — and refusal on those grounds does not entitle you to a refund.

Every scan, including a refusal, is logged. If you are turned away and disagree, ask for the time of the scan; we can produce the record.

  10. Your personal information

We collect your name, email address, telephone number and payment reference to issue your ticket, admit you at the door and handle refunds. For that purpose the organiser is the responsible party and GrandRSVP acts as their operator under the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA).

We hold your order data as responsible party in our own right for the narrow purposes of fraud prevention, chargeback defence, tax records and our own legal obligations.

We do not sell your information and we do not use it to market unrelated events. Our full privacy notice is at grandrsvp.co.za/privacy.

  11. Complaints, and rights that cannot be limited

Complaints go to hello@grandrsvp.co.za. If we cannot resolve the matter you may approach the National Consumer Commission or the Consumer Goods and Services Ombud.

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or any liability that cannot lawfully be excluded under the CPA or POPIA.

  12. Changes and governing law

These terms carry a version date. The version you accepted at checkout is the version that governs your purchase, and it is recorded against your order. A later revision does not change a booking you have already made.

These terms are governed by the law of the Republic of South Africa.

Template pending review by a qualified South African attorney. GrandRSVP's collection of ticket money for on-payment to organisers is likely to require registration as a Third Party Payment Provider with PASA and a sponsoring-bank arrangement. Do not rely on this wording until that review is complete.
